How to Correct a Wrong GEPCO Bill & Apply for Installments
Received an inflated or incorrect electricity bill? Here is the complete official process for bill corrections, due date extensions without late surcharge, and monthly installments.
1. How to Correct a Wrong Reading on GEPCO Bill
If your GEPCO bill shows excessive units or an incorrect reading photo, follow these steps immediately before the due date:
- Take a clear smartphone photo of your digital meter screen showing current kWh reading and meter serial number (see our Meter Reading Check Guide).
- Print a fresh copy of your bill using our GEPCO Duplicate Bill Tool.
- Visit your local GEPCO Sub-Division Office (SDO). Contact details for all circles are available on our GEPCO Helpline Directory.
- The Revenue Officer (RO) will verify your photo against the GEPCO Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system and issue a revised manual bill on the spot.
2. How to Apply for Monthly Bill Installments
If your monthly bill is unexpectedly high and you cannot pay the full amount at once, GEPCO officers have administrative powers to grant monthly installment facility:
- Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO): Authorized to grant up to 3 equal monthly installments for bills up to Rs. 20,000.
- Executive Engineer (XEN): Authorized to grant up to 4 monthly installments for bills up to Rs. 100,000.
- Superintending Engineer (SE): Authorized to grant up to 6 monthly installments for bills above Rs. 100,000.
3. How to Get GEPCO Bill Due Date Extension
If you need extra time to arrange payment, SDO and XEN officers can extend your bill due date by up to 3 to 5 business days without applying late payment surcharges. Visit the SDO office with your bill copy before 2:00 PM on the due date.
