How to Check GEPCO Meter Reading & Report Overbilling
Learn how to read digital GEPCO electricity meters, verify meter reading photos printed on your online bill copy, and resolve overbilling complaints with your local SDO office.
How Digital GEPCO Electricity Meters Display Readings
Gujranwala Electric Power Company has installed single-phase and three-phase digital static meters across Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat, Narowal, Hafizabad, and Mandi Bahauddin. The digital screen cycles automatically through different parameters every 5 to 10 seconds:
- Code 01 (Serial Number): Meter serial number matching your GEPCO bill record.
- Code 03 (Total Consumed Units - kWh): Cumulative units consumed since meter installation. This is the main reading number used for monthly billing.
- Code 04 (Maximum Demand Indicator - MDI kW): Peak load demand recorded during the month (for 3-phase commercial and industrial meters).
How to Verify Picture Meter Reading on Online Bills
Under NEPRA mandate, GEPCO meter readers are required to take a clear photograph of your digital meter screen at the time of monthly reading. To verify if your bill reading matches your physical meter:
- Fetch your latest bill on our GEPCO Duplicate Bill Page.
- Scroll down to the "Meter Reading Image" section on the bill copy.
- Compare the numbers shown on the printed photograph (e.g. Present Reading:
14520) with the actual reading displayed on your physical meter box.
Step-by-Step Procedure to Fix Wrong Reading or Overbilling
If the reading printed on your GEPCO bill is higher than the reading currently displayed on your physical meter screen (overbilling / fake reading):
- Take a Clear Smartphone Photo: Capture a timestamped photo of your digital meter screen showing the serial number and current kWh reading.
- Do Not Pay the Wrong Bill Immediately: Paying an overbilled amount can delay your refund credit.
- Visit Your Local Sub-Division SDO Office: Bring a copy of your current bill and the smartphone photo to the SDO (Sub-Divisional Officer) or Customer Care Center. Contact numbers are listed on our GEPCO Helpline Page.
- Get a Corrected Manual Bill: The Revenue Officer (RO) or SDO will issue a corrected revised bill after verifying your photo.
