GEPCO Solar Net Metering Guide & Rates (2026)
Learn how to sell excess solar electricity back to Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO) grid using bi-directional green meters under NEPRA Net Metering Regulations.
What is GEPCO Net Metering?
GEPCO Net Metering is a billing mechanism that allows residential, commercial, and industrial electricity consumers equipped with solar PV systems (5 kW to 1 MW) to export surplus solar energy back to the GEPCO grid. In return, GEPCO credits your account at NEPRA approved buy-back rates, offsetting your monthly electricity bill.
Eligibility Criteria for Solar Net Metering
- 3-Phase Connection Required: Net metering requires a 3-phase electricity connection. Single-phase connections must be upgraded to 3-phase first.
- Sanctioned Load Capacity: Your installed solar inverter capacity (kW) must not exceed your GEPCO sanctioned load limit.
- NEPRA Approved Solar Vendor: Solar panels and on-grid inverters must be installed by a Category C-1 or C-2 AEDB (Alternative Energy Development Board) licensed installer.
Required Documents Checklist
- Attested copy of CNIC of the connection owner.
- Copy of latest paid GEPCO bill verified via our Online Bill Checker.
- AEDB licensed solar installer installation certificate and single-line diagram (SLD).
- Technical datasheets of installed solar panels and grid-tied inverter.
- NOC certificate issued by GEPCO Executive Engineer (XEN).
Step-by-Step GEPCO Net Metering Application Process
- Application Submission: Submit standard Schedule-I application form along with technical drawings to your local GEPCO XEN office.
- Technical Inspection: GEPCO technical team inspects your solar inverter specifications, earth grounding, and islanding protection relay.
- NEPRA License Issuance: GEPCO forwards your application to NEPRA for net metering generation license approval.
- Bi-Directional Green Meter Installation: Once approved, pay the green meter cost demand notice. GEPCO tests and replaces your standard meter with a bi-directional green meter.
- Net Metering Agreement: Sign the 3-year renewable net metering contract with GEPCO.
